Spread out over two Venice landmarks and featuring more than 200 works from the Pinault Collection, it probed contemporary art’s many facets. Referring to the title of one of Bruce Nauman's installations, "Mapping the Studio" mapped artists’ practices both in the intimacy of their creative processes and their openness to the world. Emerging talents such as Wilhelm Sasnal, Mark Handforth and Kai Althoff mingled with internationally established artists such as Marlene Dumas, Franz West, Daniel Buren and Charles Ray, attesting to the wide range of expression within the collection.
"Mapping the Studio", a significant summary of contemporary art and a milestone in the Pinault Collection’s history, signalled François Pinault”s commitment to Venice.
