Fischer
Urs Fischer's oeuvre seems to be aimed at one thing: creating unique objects and situations that disrupt the viewer's thought and perception patterns. To do so, the artist doesn't set any material or conceptual limit and uses a wide array of mediums. The result is a prolific and unique oeuvre, one of the most original of our time.
Trained as a photographer, Urs Fischer is creating since the 2000s an oeuvre that alternates drawings, installations, sculptures and collages. With a mix of materials, subject matters and approaches, the Swiss artist's artworks open to a strange, immersive world bordering on the absurd. Among his creations is the series of wax sculptures with wick that melt over time, such as Untitled (2011). Indeed, self-destruction is a recurring motif in his work.
The Fischer artworks held in the Pinault Collection were first presented in 2006 at the Where Are We Going? exhibition at Palazzo Grassi, in Venice. In 2012, the artist co-curated with Caroline Bourgeois the exhibition Urs Fischer: Madame Fischer also at Palazzo Grassi.
