Kristin Baker draws unique works from her personal immersion in the world of motor racing. She asserts the sport’s originality by using unusual materials, applying brightly coloured acrylic paint to large PVC panels with a spatula. Her combinations of abstract and figurative features result in the vibrant depiction of a dynamic, breathless car show.
The successful combination of popular themes with rich inspirations highlights the intelligence of her work. The legacy of New York’s abstract art scene can be found in her sense of composition, but the quest to express motion recalls an obsession with speed that she shares with the Italian Futurists. Rigorous stratification and the virtuosity of the colours also recall works by Robert Delaunay.
Baker's works in the Pinault Collection were first exhibited during the "Sequence 1" show in 2007 at the Palazzo Grassi.
