Helmut Newton's work is characterized by the playful manipulation of photographic genres and processes, from visual investigation to photo booth pictures and the participation of the photographer himself. Best known for his fashion photographs , he also starts in the 1970s to develop a more personal line of work along with his professional assignments .

Helmut Newton started as a professional photographer in 1956 and became famous in the 1960s. At the time, he works with top models such as Cindy Crawford and Charlotte Rampling and is regularly published in Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, Playboy and Elle, to name a few. Some of his series are considered the most creative and groundbreaking fashion photographs of the 20th century.

His work was first presented by the Pinault Collection in the exhibition Dancing With Myself at the Museum Folkwang in Essen (2016).
