Paulo Nazareth is a travelling artist who creates as he walks. His work, including performances, videos, photographs and sculptures, is similar to a protean travel diary. Across the Americas and Africa, he follows migration routes on foot or by bus, documents social tensions and exhumes parts of the collective memory. He roams the world like a nomad with the aim of producing traces that might result in a work of art.
Nazareth’s interdisciplinary, participatory work definitively connects his life to his artistic output. "Since I’m already caught up in the spiral,” he says, “everything I do will be artistic. Even if I leave the art world behind, there will be no way out.”
The photos in the Notícias de América (News from the Americas) and Para Venda (For sale) series, which are in the Pinault Collection, are living signs of Nazareth's innovative approach. His works in the collection were first displayed at the 2017 "Dancing with Myself" show at the Folkwang Museum in Essen and at the Punta della Dogana in Venice in 2018.
