Arruda
Lucas Arruda’s landscapes border on abstraction. His work combines experiments with light and deep introspection. Each of his paintings reflects a particular time and state of mind.
A horizon line (the composition’s only structuring feature) usually splits Arruda's paintings, which feature light, atmospheric effects and texture. "Light is at the centre of my work,” he says. “It is the movement. Light is what guides my painting, creating intensity and, eventually, spaces that are neither abstract nor figurative." Based on memory, his works bring certain Romantic landscapes to mind while emphasizing the paint’s materiality.
Arruda was an artist-in-residence at the Pinault Collection in Lens from September 2017 to June 2018. His works were on display at the 2018 "Debout !” (“Stand Up!”) show at the Couvent des Jacobins and at the Punta della Dogana in 2019 during the "Luogo e Segni" (“Place and Signs”) exhibition.
