Untitled

2016

Oil on canvas

50 × 50 cm (19 11/16 × 19 11/16 in.)

At first glance monochromatic, upon closer observation the small Untitled canvas reveals a subtle, very thin beige stripe with faded tones along the lower edge of the frame. It draws the viewer into an intimate, almost physical relationship with the work without breaking the harmony of the discrete grey.

From memory, Lucas Arruda paints introspective landscapes bordering on abstraction, as in Untitled. Deeply inspired by the Amazon, they always have a horizon line around which earth and sky or sky and sea are composed.

Untitled was presented for the first time by the Pinault Collection at the "Luogo e Segni" ("Place and Signs") exhibition at the Punta della Dogana in Venice in 2019.
