Lucas Arruda's misty landscapes are not made from nature. They are painted in his studio, guided by his memory. The variation within the repetition of the same theme is at the heart of the artist's work. Light is here the subject of paintings with different colours and touches. These monochromes flirt with abstraction, and their small format accentuates their power by inviting the visitor to an intimate observation. The visitor finds himself in an indefinable place where time is suspended and invites him to meditation. They emphasize the intangible link between elements such as earth and sky and sky and sea, in a celebration of the different qualities of light.

Arruda's paintings belong to an unstable territory, somewhere between realism and abstraction. They provoke in the viewer a detachment from the material world, acting as an existential and emotional catalyst. Lucas Arruda was the third artist to participate in the Pinault Collection's residency program in Lens, France, from September 2017 to June 2018.

This work was presented for the first time by the Pinault Collection during the exhibition "Debout! "exhibition in 2018.
