British, born in 1958
Cerith Wyn Evans is a filmmaker, sculptor and photographer who combines craftsmanship know-how and new technologies. He breaks with the traditional forms of communication to open to forms of original expression, often unexpected and deeply influenced by literature, music and philosophy.
Wyn Evans began his career as a filmmaker in the 1980s by producing experimental short films. Since the 1990s, his work has featured the exploration of other media, like installation and sculpture. With these means, he experiences the materiality of the mechanisms of verbal and non-verbal languages, whilst continuing to absorb the influences of the world of cinema.
In 2015, the Museion of Bozen dedicated a monographic exhibition to Cerith Wyn Evans. His work was first shown by the Pinault Collection at the 2016 “Accrochage” ("Hanging") exhibition at the Punta della Dogana.
