Polish, 1925 — 2004

Edward Krasiński is famous for his systematic use of blue adhesive tape. Applied to his drawings, sculptures and installations, blue tape is his favourite material in his happenings, particularly in museums, galleries and shops. Rejecting all critical interpretations of his work, Krasiński prefers a declaration of intention: “Blue Scotch tape, 19 mm wide, unknown length. I apply it horizontally on everything and everywhere, at a height of 130 cm.”

After creating erotic drawings and paintings in the 1950s, Krasiński first used blue adhesive tape in 1968. His interventions raised him to the ranks of the most prominent names of the new Polish avant-garde of the 1960s and ‘70s. While they are close to minimalist and conceptual trends, Krasiński’s interventions still do not belong to any of these movements.

Edward Krasiński’s works, part of the Pinault Collection, were first displayed at the “Accrochage” (“Hanging”) exhibition at the Punta della Dogana in 2016.
