American, born in 1962
One of her generation's pioneers in so-called “artist cinema”, American video artist Diana Thater stands out with her hybrid installations where multiple video projections occupy the exhibition space. The close relation between the video’s spatial and temporal dimensions creates a heightened immersive experience for the viewer whose presence is fully factored in the stage arrangement.
Thater simultaneously interrogates the artist's ability to build an illusion from multiple sources, whether sociology, literature, chess games, mathematics, NASA images or the study of animal behavior.
Testament to Diana Thater's artistic practice over the past 20 years, Chernobyl, held in the Pinault Collection, was presented in the group show À Triple tour. Collection Pinault (“triple locked”) at the Paris Conciergerie, in 2013.
