French, born in 1973
A self-taught plastic artist, Raphaëlle Ricol is developing an intuitive, instinctual style of painting combining triviality, humor and sometimes the obscene to create a peculiar world, both caustic and lively.
Her use of multiple techniques, from oil painting to felt pen, marker and spray paint matches her eclectic sources of inspiration: comics, manga, cartoon film, street art, classical painting and daily life. Raphaëlle Ricol has made antagonism her ally. In her paintings, she expresses a frank and incisive style, using a colorful palette and bold splashes. Behind the false naivety of her figuration lies a critical distance.
Her works held in the Pinault Collection, Sans Titre (Gaz et Téléphone) and Malgré la différence, were presented in the group show À Triple tour. Collection Pinault (“triple locked”) at the Paris Conciergerie, in 2013.
