Yuan & Peng Yu

Chinese, born in 1972 & 1974

Among China’s most engaged and provocative contemporary artists, collaborative partners Sun Yuan and Peng Yu challenge systems of political and social authority through their disturbing and often macabre work.

Trained at the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing, Sun Yuan and Peng Yu formed a partnership in the late 1990s. Their often interactive installations use non-conventional materials like stuffed or living animals, frozen bodies, human fat, or refuse, into which they may also incorporate technological components. Their work explores the themes of death, aging, violence and even cosmetic surgery, confronting the viewer with disturbing scenes.

The work of Sun Yuan and Peng Yu in the Pinault Collection was presented at the Palazzo Grassi at the "Le Monde vous appartient" (“The World Belongs to You”) exhibition (2011-2012).
