Xhafa
American, born in 1970
Sislej Xhafa uses art as a means of questioning social injustice, violence, and social and political conflict through symbolically charged installations. He believes that it is impossible to be present in the world without being engaged.
Xhafa was born in 1970 in Peja, Kosovo. After studying at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Florence, he moved to the United States, where he now lives and works. Using a large range of media (painting, drawing, sculpture, installation), the artist is known for his works that defy cultural stereotypes, prejudices and institutional structures. He also considers the issue of travel, belonging and human rights, inspired by his own nomadic lifestyle.
Sislej Xhafa’s work in the Pinault Collection was presented at the Palazzo Grassi at the "Le Monde vous appartient" (“The World Belongs to You”) exhibition (2011-2012).
