American, born in 1949

Photographer Annie Leibovitz has worked for some of America's leading magazines, including Rolling Stone and Vanity Fair, She has built up a huge gallery of portraits of international cultural and political celebrities over the course of her long career.

Leibovitz likes to suggest intimacy in her commissioned portraits. She plays with her models’ emblematic dimension, immortalising them both as individuals and as icons of an era. Her tremendous scope encompasses a wide variety of genres beyond portraiture. Her photographic reports on the siege of Sarajevo in the 1990s and series on women around the world or great American landscapes show the breadth of her photographic vision.

Leibovitz's photographs will be shown for the first time by the Pinault Collection during the “Au-delà de la couleur” (“Beyond Colour”) exhibition at the Couvent des Jacobins in Rennes in June 2021.
