Gordon
British, born in 1966
Douglas Gordon appropriates and subverts Hollywood films, photographs or references from Gothic literature and popular culture to build new narrative methods and play on the work’s temporality. An example is the video 24 Hour Psycho, stretching Alfred Hitchcock's masterpiece Psycho out over 24 hours to explore the limits of perception.
Glasgow-born Gordon, a member of the Young British Artists, has been a leading figure in video art since the 1990s. By appropriating, altering and sometimes misrepresenting pre-existing images, he rejects any idea of personal style. His work also includes installations, photographs, wall texts and performances.
Gordon's work was presented for the first time by the Pinault Collection during the 2008 “Passage du Temps” (“Passage of Time”) show at the Tri Postal in Lille.
