Graham

American, born in 1942

Since the 1960s, Dan Graham has built up a complex body of work combining conceptual art with social criticism. He especially questions the media and the use of art in capitalist society. His works are more intellectual than sensory.

He uses eclectic media and mixes performance, video and text. He questions our perception through reflections on consciousness, the body or vision. Two things are key in his oeuvre: the viewer is part of the work and videos and mirrors are parallel to each other. The viewer becomes a real actor in his or her own aesthetic experience.

Graham's works were first exhibited by the Pinault Collection during the 2008 “Passage du temps” (“Passage of Time”) show at the Tri Postal in Lille.
