Martha
Rosler

American, born in 1943

Martha Rosler's work is a political tool that virulently yet ironically denounces situations she deems unjust and unfair. In her polemic work, the feminist American artist campaigns for the rights of all women and against patriarchy. She also critiques globalisation and American cultural hegemony.

Activism is at the heart of her work. Her installations and performances had a profound impact on the conceptual art of protest and the philosophical and aesthetic debates in the 1970s in the United States.

Rosler’s works were presented for the first time by the Pinault Collection during the 2008 “Passage du temps” (“Passage of Time”) show at the Tri Postal in Lille.
