Global Tasting, a Meal in Three Courses is an installation on three screens inside a structure recalling a circus tent. It shows a montage of American commercials, a video of a soda commercial casting call and quotes on cultural imperialism.
This installation reminds us that the United States is spreading a cultural model around the world. Martha Rosler uses the example of the three-course meal conveyed by the mass media to denounce this domination and probe our cultural habits’ political background. She criticises the United States’ cultural hegemony and the order to “consume more”, which to her is synonymous with “protest less”.
Martha Rosler's installation Global Tasting, a Meal in Three Courses was presented for the first time by the Pinault Collection at the Tri Postal in Lille during the 2008 exhibition “Passage du temps” (“Passage of Time”).
