Rosemarie Trockel’s subtle yet provocative work often combines humour, banality and intimacy. Using many media, from drawing, her favourite means of expression, to painting, sculpture and video, her singular, subversive, feminist oeuvre paved the way for a whole generation of women artists.
Seeking to evade norms, Trockel passionately addresses the theme of metamorphosis and mutation to bear witness to the instability of social conventions. She likes to create new forms and possibilities in her installations by subverting political and social symbols, such as the hood in Baklava, where sportswear becomes a symbol of violence and fear.
Trockel's work was first shown in Lille in 2008 at the Tri Postal during the exhibition “Passage du temps” (“Passage of Time”).
