Waiting

2006

Hyper-realistic sculpture. Fiberglass, silicone, feather

127 x 75 x 164 cm (50 x 29 1/2 x 64 9/16 in.)

Placed at eye level, a menacing vulture watches passers-by. Giving the impression of being stuffed, it is in fact a hyper-realistic sculpture made from fibreglass, silicone and feathers.

The work Waiting by Sun Yuan and Peng Yu shows the artistic duo’s constant obsession with death, which mixes with an almost comical interest in the macabre. The vulture humorously embodies the cruelty of the modern world: we become potential prey for this waiting scavenger. The viewer can then directly question their relationship with death and what will become of their flesh.

The work of Sun Yuan and Peng Yu in the Pinault Collection was presented at the Palazzo Grassi at the "Le Monde vous appartient" (“The World Belongs to You”) exhibition (2011-2012).
