Hughes
British, born in 1974
Richard Hughes gives new life to the rubbish he collects in the British suburbs. By reworking them, reproducing them in polyester resin or by showcasing them in an exhibition space, he sets them up as works of art and through them questions collective memory, social history and urban heritage.
A graduate in industrial design and philosophy, the British artist creates daring sculptures and installations that function as ironic allegories or memento mori of our world today. Through these very narrative environments, employing the leitmotif of the passing of time, Hughes invites the viewer to go beyond their first visual impression.
Richard Hughes’ work was shown for the first time by the Pinault Collection during the 2009 exhibition "Mapping the Studio" at the Palazzo Grassi.
