Kai
Althoff

German, born in 1966

The bold narrations of Kai Althoff construct a distorted world where the enigma reigns. The fragmentary, indecipherable, elliptical aesthetics of his paintings in particular, where the figurative sometimes tends towards a stylisation close to abstraction, follow in the footsteps of German expressionist painting.

Focusing on a multi-faceted practice, bringing together paintings and drawings, installations, production of texts, videos, photographs and sculptures, the German artist revives the concept of total art in stagings that he designs in minute detail, inviting the viewer to immerse themselves in a unique sensory experience.

Kai Althoff’s work was presented for the first time by the Pinault Collection in 2009 during the major group show "Mapping the Studio" at the Punta della Dogana and the Palazzo Grassi in Venice.
