Glenn
Brown

British, born in 1966

Using a unique, virtuoso technique, Glenn Brown appropriates the subjects of the great masters: from Rembrandt van Rijn to Lucian Freud via François Boucher. His vibrant, organic paintings, his tortuous line drawings, and his painted sculptures form a unique body of work that is flamboyant and dystopian.

A member of the Young British Artists group, Glenn Brown makes pictures that mix references to art history and incorporate technological innovations like image processing software. In a fluid and mannered style, he reinterprets Renaissance masterpieces for the 20th century. "I‘m rather like a Dr Frankenstein, constructing paintings out of the residue or dead parts of other artist‘s work”, he explains.

Glenn Brown’s work was shown for the first time by the Pinault Collection during the 2009 exhibition "Mapping the Studio" at the Palazzo Grassi.
