Gelitin

Gelitin

Austrian group, founded in 1993

A collective of Austrian artists composed of Wolfgang Gantner, Ali Janka, Florian Reichter and Tobias Urban, Gelitin presents, with humour and derision, the sensual pleasures and taboos linked to the body. Through an eclectic range of media - performances, installations and photocollages - the group makes a point of including the viewer in the work and defying the social norms of perception.

Addressing the liberation of thwarted desires, Gelitin’s works are real immersive experiences. Spontaneous and joyfully chaotic, they put the emphasis on comical and sometimes crudely erotic situations. In 2013, for example, the artists used a paintbrush held in the anus to paint portraits of members of the public in a performance called “Ritratto Analitico” (“Analytical Portrait”).

Gelitin’s works in the Pinault Collection were shown for the first time during the 2009 exhibition "Mapping the Studio" at the Palazzo Grassi.
