Crash my party you bastards
2004
Mixed Media
Variable dimensions
Revisiting the art of trompe l'oeil, the evocatively titled Crash My Party You Bastards must be viewed from a certain distance so that the trivial vision of an after-party interior, spied through a curved opening on the wall of the exhibition space, suddenly takes on the features of a female face with red lips.
Comprising elements as eclectic as soup stains, the splinters of a crushed guitar and shadows, Richard Hughes' installation plays with our perceptions and non-existent expectations at the sight of a scene that seems trivial at first glance. As usual, he has taken rubbish and everything that evokes a sense of abandonment and rejection to revisit them and make them the support of a work conceived within the exhibition space.
Acquired by the Pinault Collection, Crash My Party You Bastards was presented during the major group show "Mapping the Studio" at the Palazzo Grassi and Punta della Dogana in 2009.
