Urs Fischer and curator Caroline Bourgeois jointly designed the show, which unfolded along a two-storey itinerary reflecting his vast career from the 1990s to 2012 and enriched by works specially created for the occasion. Fischer's world at the crossroads of the rational and the absurd was brought to light in all its polysemy and complexity. The show’s title, "Madame Fisscher", named after the sculpture in the palace’s atrium, humorously attested to his penchant for paradox and rejection of univocal interpretations.
The event ushered in a series of solo shows by major contemporary artists at the Palazzo Grassi designed to complement the Pinault Collection’s thematic parallel exhibitions.
