Cast aluminium, steel chain

Overall dimensions: 629.71 x 32 x 33 cm

Hanging from the ceiling, the two pieces titled abC compose a dialogue. Each show a bird standing on a rock—the bird and rock are both made in cast aluminum—, hanging by a steel chain locked around the animal's neck. A complex and paradoxical balance is established between the lightness of the bird and the weight of the rock, which the former holds as if by magic.

Urs Fischer's oeuvre is characterized by humor, a taste for paradox and virtuoso execution. His creative world, which mixes illusion and reality, violence and humor, seems both logical and absurd. The artist creates unstable balances whose meaning seems to always be moving.

Held in the Pinault Collection, the sculpture abC introduces the theme of the double, which was developed throughout the Madame Fisscher exhibition at Palazzo Grassi (2012).
