Violent Cappuccino

2007

Cast aluminum, paint

202.6 x 130.2 x 73 cm (79 3/4 x 51 1/4 x 28 3/4 in.)

If the work Violent Capuccino is surprising by name, the installation itself is no less striking. Two cardboard boxes stand one on top of the other; a dust-covered skeleton struggles to get in or out.

Urs Fischer is interested in everyday objects in our environment, but gives over his work for free interpretation by the viewer. Violent Cappuccino reveals the way the artist chose enigmatic titles, combining common words to create unexpected phrases. The piece is linked to Urs Fischer’s larger body of work, with the themes of destruction, decomposition and wear recurring throughout.

The artist’s work in the Pinault Collection was shown at the Palazzo Grassi at the "Le Monde vous appartient" (“The World Belongs to You”) exhibition (2011-2012).
