In these larger-than-life photo portraits, a grinning, smug, overly made-up woman stares us in the eye. Her mismatched outfit with clashing patterns and colours clearly stands out against a neutral background with emerald-green reflections.
This series of six portraits shares similar aesthetics and humour created by Cindy Sherman for the fashion magazine Vogue. Continuing her exploration of simulacra in art through portraiture, here the American photographer plays with the value of vulgarity. She made herself up as a hypermedia figure in popular tabloids, proudly wearing clothes by the haute-couture brand Balenciaga.
Untitled 2007-2008 is in the Pinault Collection alongside many other portraits of the artist. It was exhibited at the 2009 major group show "Mapping the Studio" at the Palazzo Grassi and Punta della Dogana.
