The first two parts highlighted humanity’s contradictory tension. Wars and disasters were met with the entertainment and leisure society. The third part sketched an opening onto new areas of contemporary art. African, American, Asian and European art were included, attesting to a changing world.
From Jeff Koons to Shirin Neshat, Joana Vasconcelos, Maurizio Cattelan, Takashi Murakami and Subodh Gupta, "A Certain State of the World?" featured leading artists in the Pinault Collection. This was the second major show outside the walls, after “Passage du temps” ("Passage of Time") at the Tri Postal in Lille in 2007, confirming the collection’s resolutely international character.
