BB
1998-2000
Video
18min. 20sec.
Cameron Jamie's terrifying yet viscerally fascinating video BB immerses us into the sweaty, violent world of amateur wrestling in the suburbs of Los Angeles. Rejecting a sensationalist or documentary viewpoint, he captures the raw spectacle of marginalised youth purging its hatred through ritualised fights.
Shot with two Super-8 cameras, BB shows a wrestling match organised by youths in the backyard of a suburban Californian house. The black and white images, slow motion effects and music by the famous heavy metal band The Melvins, which accompanies the video, thrust us into a kind of tortured, miraculous nightmare.
Cameron Jamie's video BB, which is in the Pinault Collection, was shown during the 2009 exhibition "Un certain état du monde ?" (“A Certain State of the World?”) at the Garage Center for Contemporary Culture in Moscow.
