Jamie
American, born in 1969
Cameron Jamie is fascinated by what he calls "social theatre" and the vernacular rituals that structure the imagination of the suburbs. His anthropological, polymorphic art transposes the aesthetic codes of American popular and underground culture.
In his drawings, sculptures, videos and performances, he is interested in the dysfunctional manifestations of the so-called "American way of life", exposing the raw vitality of marginalised folk practices. Becoming part of the communities he works with, he makes ethnographic and performative videos to show the relationships between popular myths and the creation of fictional identities by individuals.
Jamie's video BB, which is in the Pinault Collection, was shown during the 2009 exhibition "Un certain état du monde ?" (“A Certain State of the World?”) at the Garage Center for Contemporary Culture in Moscow.
