Carlos
Amorales

Mexican, born in 1970

Carlos Amorales’ deeply personal works blur the lines between the real and the imaginary, reflecting his emotional introversion and the shadowy parts of his psyche. A multifaceted artist working in video, animation, drawing, sculpture and performance, he draws on European and Mexican cultures to breathe life into phantasmagorical creations where dreams and nightmares meet.

His works are often the outcome of collaboration with animation specialists, composers, designers, musicians or even professional wrestlers. The artist’s collaboration with the latter for his performances, which he conceives as contemporary rituals, have made him well known.

The video installation Amorales Interim, Ray Rosas (Fragments for a Conversation), Arena dos de Mayo is in the Pinault Collection. It was presented in 2009 as part of the exhibition "Un certain état du monde ?" (“A Certain State of the World?”) at the Garage Center for Contemporary Culture in Moscow.
