Amorales Interim, Ray Rosas in Conversation, Arenas dos de Mayo
1997
Video piece (triple installation)
Video (Amorales Interim): 9min. 48sec. Video (Ray Rosas): 56min. Video (Arena dos de Mayo): 13hr. 58min.
The installation Amorales Interim, Ray Rosas (Fragments for a Conversation), Arena Dos de Mayo includes a video trilogy where Carlos Amorales stages the fight between good and evil while playing with the codes of popular culture. The videos feature different characters wearing the same mask made from the artist's face, including Amorales himself facing a professional wrestler.
This video trilogy is part of the beginning of Morales' work, which was inspired by the world of wrestling in the mid-1990s. It offers a reflection on the idea of identity as well as a metaphor for the contemporary art world, where artists must struggle wearing their fictional identities.
The video installation Amorales Interim, Ray Rosas (Fragments for a Conversation), Arena dos de Mayo, part of the Pinault Collection, was presented in 2009 as part of the exhibition "Un certain état du monde ?" (“A Certain State of the World?”) at the Garage Center for Contemporary Culture in Moscow.
