Shirreff

Canadian, born in 1975

Combining photography, sculpture and film, Erin Shirreff's work continuously deepens reflection on the conceptual distance between objects and their representation.

The Canadian-born artist explores the material and meaningful potential of each of her favourite media, the sculptural or pictorial qualities of photography for example, in order to interfere with our intuitive perception of the image. Still or moving, the images always ask viewers to re-consider their view of things and grasp all their haptic and visual facets.

Faithfully reflecting that search, the video Lake, which is in the Pinault Collection, features the perceptual changes allowed by manipulating a single photograph. It was shown during the 2012 exhibition “Parole des Images” (“Word of Images”) focusing on the moving image, at the Palazzo Grassi in Venice.
