Wallinger
British, born in 1959
A key figure on the contemporary British scene, Mark Wallinger steeps his work in political commitment. He explores concepts of authority and power - starting with the concept of images.
Focusing on such complex societal issues as religion, nationalism or class struggle, this versatile, inventive artist uses a wide range of techniques and media from painting, sculpture, video, photography and performance to monumental installations, including State Britain, for which he won the Turner Prize. His works might look stylistically disparate, but they are underpinned by a strong conceptual consistency that always leads back to issues of identity, culture and politics.
Mark Wallinger’s pieces were shown for the first time by the Pinault Collection in 2012 during the "Parole des Images" (“Word of Images”) exhibition at the Palazzo Grassi in Venice.
