Büsi, a video by Peter Fischli and David Weiss of a cat lapping up milk, was shown on a giant screen in New York’s Times Square. The Swiss artists gave this touching, everyday image an unexpected monumentality by showing a scene usually watched on a home computer in a public advertising space.
They take inspiration from the collective imagination to subvert it. Büsi puts viral videos in the spotlight, demonstrating the artists’ ability to offer a new, surprising, ironic version of cultural phenomena.
It was shown for the first time by the Pinault Collection in 2008 during the exhibition “Passage du temps” (“Passage of Time”) at the Tri Postal in Lille.
