Birth of Love

2006

Video projection

1min. 29sec.

Projected on a large wall, the video Birth of Love shows a cat eating a mouse. Placed on the ground, the camera shows every detail of the meal. This scene, which doesn't mention the hunt that might have preceded it, provokes a feeling of disgust that contrasts with the title of the video.

Devoid of any narrative effects, Birth of Love appears as a realistic, unavoidable scene. Here, Adel Abdessemed exhibits the “natural law” at play in an urban context, thus linking the history of human civilizations and the animal reign. The video chimes with the empathy of Happiness in Mitte and the provocation of Séparation.

The video Birth of Love was first shown by the Pinault Collection in the exhibition The Passage of Time at the Tri Postal in Lille, in 2007-2008.
