Dekyndt
Edith Dekyndt captures space in all its dimensions: sound, light, temperature, humidity, and waves, thus revealing the fleeting or inexpressible aspects that escape the eye. She sees the image as a phenomenon of appearance, of resurgence, in motion. In her resolutely experimental work, the process always takes precedence over formal construction. Her scientifically rigorous research always establishes a sensitive and poetic purpose.
Photography, sound, video, and painting are all media the artist uses to capture in time and space these almost imperceptible changes. Each of the Belgian artist's works presents the opportunity for emotional and mental investment in a given environment, of which the artist studies the spatial, cultural, historical or symbolic determinism.
Edith Dekyndt was the Pinault Collection’s artist in residence in Lens in 2017, in the programme’s second edition. There, she produced the work Winter Drums 06 B (Tryptic) acquired by the Pinault Collection and shown to the public for the first time in the recent group show “Luogo e Segni” ("Place and Signs") at the Punta della Dogana in Venice in 2019.
