Tabouret
Claire Tabouret's work seems to be constantly shifting between an imaginary world and the reality of daily life. Often, the two worlds seem to blend and viewers don't know whether they're contemplating a fictitious scene. The characters struggle, frolic, contemplate or pose in undefined settings; they are linked by intimacy, dream and sometimes nightmare.
Claire Tabouret's artistic practice forcefully explores memory by using archive images and photographs or childhood memories. An aura of mystery surrounds these figures and Tabouret's paintings seem to belong to the genre of history painting. The subjects and landscapes, which are surrounded by an eerie atmosphere, seem timeless and create an ambiguous dialogue between the artwork and the viewer.
Claire Tabouret's work was first shown by the Pinault Collection in the exhibition The Illusion of Light at Palazzo Grassi, in 2014.
