Gastaldon
Vidya Gastaldon creates half spiritual, half sensuous stories ruled by signs and myths. Through painting, installations and videos, she works with symbols and beliefs as well as with material reality. Her artworks mix elements from Hindu and Christian iconography, eastern religions, the hippie counter-culture and daily life objects.
Inspired by acts of spiritual reflexivity and the surprises of life, Vidya Gastaldon seeks to give a sensitive form to the intangible, which then takes shape and occupies the space. Both eerie and fantastic, her work is related to that of the Symbolists, such as Odilon Redon and Annette Messager.
Vidya Gastaldon's work was first shown by the Pinault Collection in the exhibition The Illusion of Light at Palazzo Grassi, in 2014.
