Muntadas
Spanish, born in 1942
Since the 1970s, ‘media landscapes’ (mass media, images and advertising slogans) have been the basic material used by Antoni Muntadas in his artistic work. As he produces singular objects, whether photography, video, urban performance or web, the Spanish artist highlights the techniques used to create consensus in our interconnected and consumer society.
Driven by a spirit of transversality, Antoni Muntadas deconstructs the mechanisms of narration and encourages viewers to participate. His strongly politicized approach leads him to criticize art institutions but also to question the human condition in the advanced capitalism era.
Antoni Muntadas' work was first shown by the Pinault Collection in the exhibition The Illusion of Light at Palazzo Grassi, in 2014.
