Danh Vo
The title, "Slip of the Tongue", shows that the Vietnamese-born artist invited to occupy all the spaces of the Punta della Dogana designed an exhibition about involuntary error, often a source of disruption in the usual course of things but, when placed in an artistic context, is a matter for creation. The 175 works gathered for the show by Danh Vo were linked by one common factor: accident. Combining elements of his private life with collective memory and art history, he brought historical works from Venetian institutions such as the Galleria dell'Academia and the Giorgio Cini Foundation together with contemporary ones from the Pinault and other public and private collections. Without a hierarchy or discrimination, works by Bertrand Lavier, Lee Lozano, Alina Szapocnikow, Jean-Luc Moulène and Danh Vo were exhibited alongside paintings by Venetian masters from Giovanni Bellini to Titian’s school.
For the first time in its history, the Pinault Collection gave carte blanche to one of the artists it has promoted since its inception, taking a fresh look at its collections, which were shown and placed in the continuity of Venice's artistic heritage.
