Friedrich
Kunath

German, born in 1974

The work of Friedrich Kunath, tinged with irony and nostalgia, often evokes different points of view on the world and the emotional states that he has experienced living first in Germany and then in the United States.

Born in Chemnitz, in West Germany, Friedrich Kunath now lives and works in Los Angeles. His work spans different media: painting, drawing, sculpture and installation. Kunath explores the emotions of the human soul, from desire to loneliness, focusing on feelings of melancholy, disenchantment and vulnerability. He produces works based on real and fictional scenarios, inhabited by lonely characters deprived of any certainty.

Friedrich Kunath’s works in the Pinault Collection were first presented at the Palazzo Grassi at the "Le Monde vous appartient" (“The World Belongs to You”) exhibition (2011-2012).
