The complex work of Florian Pumhösl takes shape in paintings, graphic art, films and installations, through which he proposes a rereading of the modernist legacy and its aesthetic vocabulary. Rigour and eclecticism characterise his productions, in which every form and typographic element is reduced to its most basic expression.
The gaze resolutely turned towards 20th century avant-garde movements, Pumhösl develops a very personal abstract language centred around an extreme reduction process. The sequence of fragments that derives from it recalls the patterns typical of utopian architectures of Russian constructivism and Futurism.
Large personal exhibitions dedicated to Florian Pumhösl have been held at Kunsthaus Bregenz (2012), at the Art Institute of Chicago (2012) and at the MUMOK in Vienna (2011). His work was first shown by the Pinault Collection at the 2016 “Accrochage” ("Hanging") exhibition at the Punta della Dogana.
