Macuga
Polish, born in 1967
Curator, collector, researcher and set designer, Goshka Macuga is a multidisciplinary artist whose work is a complex narrative. Her raw material is the documentation that informs history, politics, sociology and ethnography, that she associates to her own photographs or to the works of other artists. By juxtaposing documented reality and personal vision, she creates compositions that offer different reading levels.
The archive approach is at the heart of Macuga’s installations, projects that begin with extensive research. In particular, she engages in the understanding of the historical and social context of the artistic institutions that welcome her works, whose collections and archives form the substrate of her next compositions.
The work of Goshka Macuga was first shown by the Pinault Collection at the 2016 “Accrochage” ("Hanging") exhibition at the Punta della Dogana.
