Hubert
Duprat

French, born in 1957

Combining the vegetable, the mineral, the animal and the artificial, Hubert Duprat's singular, mysterious works might recall a curiosity cabinet were they not so firmly rooted in the present. His sculptures are marked by a desire to break down the traditional boundaries between science and art by re-appropriating craft processes and natural phenomena.

Aquatic insect larvae transformed into jewellery, concrete marquetry or fragmented and recomposed stone blocks: Duprat's sculptures are true experiments, the outcome of a long period of conceptual reflection. From goldsmithing to entomology, geology and archaeology, he draws on scientific and artistic knowledge to make unique, resolutely transdisciplinary pieces.

Duprat's work was shown for the first time by the Pinault Collection at the 2015 exhibition "Slip of the Tongue" at the Punta della Dogana.
