Jeff Koons’ consumer icons, Charles Ray’s spatial innovations, David Hammons’ subtle reflections on race and Raymond Pettibon’s punk world dissected and critiqued the American Way of Life. The Young British Artists, like the Chapman brothers and Damien Hirst, provocatively explored the chaos of war and our fetishistic consumerism. In very different worlds, Maurizio Cattelan and Piotr Uklanski took a critical, falsely candid look at dark times in history.
The committed, reflective, sometimes unnerving works in "Post-Pop", the second show at the Palazzo Grassi after "Where Are We Going?”, unveiled a bit more of the Pinault Collection's taste and the diversity of contemporary art.
