Your Wave Is
2006
Light Wire and aluminium
Variable dimensions
An installation by Danish artist Olafur Eliasson, Your Wave Is is a gigantic mesh of luminous cables that illuminated the facade of Palazzo Grassi during a whole year. This monumental and subtle construction, which modified our perception of Venetian architecture, was unveiled in 2006 on the occasion of the first exhibition of the Pinault Collection, Where Are We Going?.
Like other works by Olafur Eliasson, Your Wave Is combines cutting edge technology and a universal sensory experience. Its semi-transparent structure of light-emitting cables is based on the mathematical formula that describes the rippling movement of water. Apart from highlighting the architecture, the installation resonates with the history of Venice, which is intimately linked with water and sailing.
A unique site-specific installation, Your Wave Is celebrates the connection between the city of Venice, contemporary art and the natural elements, in particular water.
